ECG urges customers to use Power App to pay bills

Ho March 30, GNA – Mr Delali Oklu, the General Manager, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Volta and Oti has urged postpaid customers of the Company to use the ECG Power App to pay bills to stop the spread of COVID-19.

He said the use of the App would minimize the rate at which customers visited ECG offices, reduce physical contact and congestion at the offices and significantly reduce the spread of the Coronavirus.

Mr Oklu said customers without smart phones could access the App by dialing the USSD shortcode *226# to pay their bills, adding that, customers who encountered difficulties could report via the ECG Power App.

The General Manager said prepaid customers in Ho and Hohoe Municipalities could still visit the offices of the Company or any private vendor to purchase prepaid credit for their meters.

“With the outbreak of the Corona Virus in the country, we urge our customers especially postpaid customers in Volta and Oti Regions to download the ECG Power App on Google Play store or App Store to pay their bills. If you are using a postpaid meter, you only need your account number after downloading the App to pay your bill without visiting any of our offices,” he stated.

The General Manager assured customers of safety as the Company had put necessary measures in place to curb the spread of COVID-19 at its offices.

“The measures, which are in line with directives from the Ghana Health Service, Ministry of Health, World Health Organization and the Company’s COVID-19 guidelines are meant to safeguard the health of both staff and customers who transact business with the Company at its premises,” he said.

Mr Oklu said the Company provided Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) such as hand gloves, alcohol-based hand sanitizers and nose masks for its staff, especially, front line officers, like the treasury executives, field workers, security personnel, customer relations executives among others who often interacted with customers.

He said the Company also provided Veronica buckets, liquid soaps, disinfectants and alcohol-based hand sanitizers to all its offices to enable the staff and customers wash their hands under running water to avoid the spread of virus.

Mr Oklu said the Company also positioned some Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer at vantage points in its offices to check temperature of staff and customers so that any ‘abnormal’ temperature recorded at any of their premises would be referred to health authorities for further action.

“As a Company that delivers an essential service like providing quality, reliable and safe electricity services with a customer oriented workforce to the Ghanaian people, our staff interact with a lot of people on a daily basis, hence, the need to institute measures at our workplace to help safeguard the health of our staff and customers,” he stated.

Mr Oklu said though domestic demand for electricity would increase as a lot of people were at home due to the pandemic, his outfit was fully prepared to ensure that customers in Volta and Oti Regions experienced stable power supply.
