NCCE engages groups at East Gonja on violent extremism

Salaga (S/R), Jan 15, GNA – The East Gonja Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged some identifiable groups in the area on preventing and containing violent extremism.

It was to ensure peaceful coexistence and national cohesion, security and consciousness amongst community members, tolerance and participation in the fight against violent extremism.

Youth groups, faith-based organisations, traditional authorities, women groups amongst others in the municipality were amongst the beneficiaries.

They were educated on the modus operandi of extremist groups, their target and places, their activities, effects/consequences of engaging in extremist attacks and ways to counter such activities in society.

Mr Iddrisu Latif, East Gonja Municipal Director of NCCE, speaking during the event at Salaga, expressed need for all to tolerate one another for peaceful coexistence.

He advised all to cherish national values that united the country such as tolerance, respect, obedience, patriotism, nationalism, love and care, peace and harmony.

Mr Ibrahim Alidu, a Civic Education Officer of the NCCE in the municipality, expressed the need for all to see themselves as one people and work for their common good.

Madam Falilatu Mohammed, also a Civic Education Officer of the NCCE in the municipality, advised youth of communities to form community volunteer groups to support efforts at preventing and containing violent extremism in the area.
