Two love birds jailed ten years each for car snatching

The Accra Circuit Court Three has sentenced two love birds to ten years imprisonment each, in hard labour, for car snatching.
Daniel, 25, Liberian and Skylar, 18, American, told the Court they were not in their right frame of mind when they committed the offenses.
Meanwhile they admitted having conspired to rob a Bolt driver.
President Mahama visits Mamprugu Overlord as part of Bawku peacemaking mission

President John Dramani Mahama has visited Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, the Overlord of Mamprugu, at his palace in Nalerigu, the capital of the North East Region.
The visit forms part of the President’s ongoing peacemaking efforts in the area and underscores his commitment to resolving the protracted Bawku conflict.
Earlier, President Mahama held a similar engagement in Bawku, Upper East Region, with Zugraan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, the Overlord of the Kusaug Traditional Area.
33-year-old man found dead in room; Police investigate

Residents of Ahenboboano, a suburb of Berekum in the Bono Region, were left in shock following the death of a 33-year-old man, identified only as Kwasi, on Tuesday evening.
The deceased was reportedly found unresponsive, with indications suggesting self-harm.
The body has since been retrieved by the police and deposited at a mortuary for preservation, pending further investigation.
President Mahama makes key National Security appointments

Prosper Douglas Bani, Former Chief of Staff, has been appointed National Security Advisor to the President. Mr Bani, a former Minister for the Interior, brings a wealth of experience and expertise.
DCOP Abdul-Osman Razak will serve as the National Security Coordinator, ensuring a cohesive strategy across all security initiatives.
COP Nathan Kofi Boakye (Rtd.) has been appointed Director of Operations at the Presidency to oversee operational effectiveness in security matters.
Charles Kipo has been named Director General of the National Intelligence Bureau.
Five Arrested for Illegal Mining in Wenchi Municipality

Jan. 14, GNA – The Wenchi Traditional Council in the Bono Region has arrested five individuals, including a Chinese national, for allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities in the Wenchi Municipality.
The arrest was made by a taskforce established by Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III, President of the Council, at approximately 1700 hours on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. The operation took place at an illegal mining site in Atuna, a farming community in the area.
The taskforce also seized four excavators, two gold washing machines, and Ford vehicles used in the illegal mining operations.
The suspects and the confiscated equipment have since been handed over to the Wenchi Divisional Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.
Mr. Reindorf Oware, a Special Aide to Osagyefo Tabrako III, confirmed the arrests in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wenchi.
The President orders recall of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued by previous administration

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the recall of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued by the previous administration.
Dr Callistus Mahama, Executive Secretary to the President, in a letter addressed to the Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, said the exercise aligns with the Government’s commitment to ensuring the proper use and administration of official travel documents by national and international standards.
“The recall aims to prevent misuse, safeguard the country’s reputation and maintain the integrity of our diplomatic engagement”, it states.
West African Gas Pipeline Company reschedules maintenance
