Two killed in stabbing attack in north-eastern Germany

Berlin, Jan 13, (dpa/GNA) – A 26-year-old woman and a 16-year-old male teenager have been killed in a stabbing attack, in an apartment building north-east of Berlin, German police said Monday.

A 19-year-old woman sustained serious injuries in the incident in Casekow, a small municipality some 90 kilometres from the German capital city.

The suspect, who police say is a 27-year-old man, was arrested during the police operation with serious injuries.

The attacker’s motive was initially unclear. The suspect and the three victims are all said to be German citizens.

Police found the bodies of a man and a woman in a flat, after an emergency call was made at around 10.00 am (0900 GMT).

A seriously injured woman was found in a neighbouring flat, the spokesman said. She is thought to have fled there to save herself from the attacker.

Another man was found seriously injured in a backyard. Police later clarified that he was the suspect.

The police spokesman did not provide any further details about the suspect, but described the weapon used as a “stabbing weapon,” saying he was unable to confirm at this point that it was a knife.

Casekow is a small community near the Polish border with only some 817 inhabitants, according to the municipality’s website.
