The FORUM condemns seizures, attacks on government offices, demands investigation

Accra, Jan. 10, GNA – The Forum for Public Sector Associations and Unions has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to set up a committee to investigate the persons behind the illegal takeover of government offices and properties.

The Forum said the “dastardly acts” was becoming widespread and called on the Police to “act immediately.”

Addressing a news conference in Accra on Friday, Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo, Chairman of the Forum, said the development could lead to a shutdown of public services.

“Once the works of these Assemblies are disrupted, there will be a breakdown of governance and public services,” he said.

Following the change of government, some unidentified groups have been seen in viral videos besieging some public offices across the country and forcibly removing workers in the affected offices.

Some of the unidentified persons were seen in some videos issuing threats to persons believed to be working in those government offices to vacate the offices with immediate effect.

Among the institutions affected are: the Head Office of the Ghana Health Service, Tema Development Corporation, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, National Service Secretariat, and the National Disaster Management Organisation.

President Mahama on Wednesday condemned the attacks and called on persons leading such illegal takeovers of government offices to refrain from such acts.

The FORUM said the situation however presented an opportunity for the Government and Public Services Commission to review appointments and placement procedures to insulate public officers from “needless politicisation.”

“We call on all Public Servants and our membership to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the Police,” he said.
