Accra, Jan. 8, GNA – Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, received a rousing welcome from fans upon his arrival from Jamaica.

The multiple-award-winning Ghanaian musician performed for the first time in Jamaica at Vybz Kartel’s Freedom Street Concert, which took place at the National Stadium in Kingston.

More than 35,000 people attended the concert, which featured historic performances by Vybz Kartel, Popcaan, Spice, and Busta Rhymes, among others.

Speaking in an interview after his arrival, Shatta Wale remarked that performing in Jamaica was a dream true for him, and was amazed at the number of fans who came to meet him at the airport.

“It was a dream come true to perform with Vybz Cartel, and it is beautiful to see my fans, who want to see me gain that international recognition and also raise the flag of Ghana high.

“Dancehall is my world, and it is what I love to do, and so from now on I think I will be going to Jamaica more and any other country that loves dancehall,” he told pressmen.

When asked about being crowned the ‘King of African Dancehall’ by some traditional leaders following his arrival, Shatta Wale said he deserved the title considering his journey in the game.

“I don’t know who else is doing dancehall in Ghana and has done it more than Shatta Wale, and I have done it for years.

“No disrespect to anybody, and shout-outs to Terry Bonchaka, Yoggy Doggy, and Samini, who were role models but I think it is good people give me that title,” he said.
