Keri (O/R), Dec 26, GNA – Maternal healthcare in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, has received a significant boost with the commissioning of a seven-bed maternity block at Keri.
The new facility, initiated by the Gulf of Guinea Northern Region Social Cohesion (SOCO) project, aims to enhance the quality of care provided to maternal healthcare services to residents of Keri and surrounding communities.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by various stakeholders, including the outgoing Oti Regional Minister, health officials, community leaders and residents.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP) Mr. Daniel Machator (Rtd), emphasized the importance of access to quality healthcare, particularly for expectant mothers.
He noted that the new facility would help reduce maternal mortality rates and improve health outcomes for mothers and their newborns.
Madam Juliana Awasan, Assemblyman for the area, commended the government for its efforts in improving healthcare in the area.
She highlighted the positive impact the facility would have on reducing maternal mortality rates and improving overall healthcare outcomes in the catchment area.
Community authorities, Nana Owusu Philip of Challan and Okyeam of Akyode, Nana Okpora Francis, both commended the government for its commitment to improving the healthcare infrastructure.
They stressed the importance of such facilities in reducing maternal mortality rates and providing a safe environment for childbirth.
The seven-bed maternity block is equipped with modern amenities, including a water storage facility and is staffed by trained healthcare professionals.
