Accra, Dec 24, GNA – The Rotary Club of Accra Airport East (RCAAE) has held a free Prostate Cancer Advocacy and Screening exercise for officers of the Formed Police Unit (FPU), of the Ghana Police Service at Tesano, in Accra.

The exercise which screened about 300 officers focused on driving an awareness campaign among the officers and their families.

Speaking at the event last Saturday, veteran Actor and Stand-up Comedian, Kweku Sintim Misa (KSM), who was the special guest encouraged the officers to regularly screen themselves for early detection and treatment.

He said early detection would go a long way in ensuring effective treatment and preventing the spread of the disease to other parts of the body.

KSM who was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer a few years ago said, but for early detection, his situation could have been worse.

He appealed to the officers to regularly screen themselves for early detection stating that “Looking fit doesn’t mean being healthy.”

Mr William Adjabui, President, RCAAE, in his address, indicated that the exercise formed part of the Club’s Corporate Social Responsibilities, and was also in line with one of Rotary International’s area of focus on Disease Prevention and Treatment.

According to him, available research revealed that while prostate cancer incidences in Ghana had a high mortality rate, early detection and treatment saves lives.

Mr Adjabui, who reiterated the club’s commitment to championing the advocacy campaign, said besides screening the officers, the exercise also focused on demystifying the myths surrounding Prostate Cancers.

For his part, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Michael Baah, Commander of the National Police Academy, expressed appreciation to the club for the gesture.

ACP Baah encouraged the officers to fully take part in the exercise and follow the recommendations of the health personnel to the latter.

The event which was graced by Mad Florence Maame Hagan, the District Governor (DG) of Rotary Club; Nana Yaa Serebour, DG Elect; Madam Yvonne Kumodgi Darko, Past DG; Mr William Ofori, District Public Image Chair; and other senior officials of the club was organised in partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Accra – Achimota, Airport City, Airport Enclave, Dam Site, Hohoe, Labone, Morning Tides, Speakmasters, Spintex, Teshie Nungua, Winner, and the Rotaract Clubs of Teshie Nungua and Weija, with support from Johnson & Johnson, Police Health Corps, Halcyon MH, and Awake Mineral Water.
