Accra, Dec. 18, GNA- Passion for Needy, an NGO, has presented assorted items to the elderly and single parents at Tema Newton in the Greater Accra Region.
Each of the beneficiaries includes rice, oil, canned fish, vegetable oil, tomato puree, biscuits, soft drinks, bottled water, and new pieces of cloth and scarves.
Mrs Janet Torgbor El-Aschkar, the Chairperson of the organisation, said the gesture was due to three economic challenges they faced and was hopeful that the “widow’s mite” would make a difference in their lives.
The donation, she said, was from the instruction of the late Senior Prophet T.B. Joshua, the founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, to show love to the elderly in society.
The donation, she stressed, was to support government efforts in alleviating poverty in the country.
“As government initiatiate measures to reduce the burden on the citizens, we find it necessary to contribute our little substance to achieve the desired,” she said.
The NGO, she said, since its inception in 2009, had provided support to various institutions and individuals, including the coastal communities from Nungua to Mamprobi in Accra, Pru Ewusi Community in the Central Region, and Adeiso in the Eastern region.
The organisation also supported privately owned charitable organisations like Teshie and Nungua Children’s Home, Christ Faith Foster Home at Frafraha, Street Academy, Islamic Research Institute, and others. She said the elderly had rich experience in various ways that the younger ones could tap into to enrich themselves for the future.
Madam Binah Yogakpor, on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the organisation for the items, saying the gesture was a great relief to enjoy the Christmas.
She prayed for God’s blessings on the organisation and appealed to other institutions to come to their aid.
