Obuasi (Ash), Dec.16, GNA – Madam Faustina Amissah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi East, has urged beneficiaries of the disability fund to make productive use of the items they receive for sustainable livelihoods.
She said the objective of the fund, which constituted three per cent of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) was to economically empower beneficiaries to be self-reliant.
She was speaking at the second disbursement of items procured from the disability fund this year for 36 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at Obuasi.
Items distributed to the beneficiaries included fufu pounding machines, hairdryers, deep freezers, sewing machines, cocoa spraying machines, among others.
The MCE said the Assembly had put together a monitoring team to ensure the items were used for the intended purposes.
“We want the objectives of the disability fund to be realised hence we have a monitoring team both at the district and regional levels to visit the beneficiaries and ascertain how they use the items.
“We always admonish them not to sell the items but to use them for their intended purpose,” she observed.
Mr. Fuseini Anyoasi, Chairperson of the Obuasi Chapter of Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled, commended the Government for the consistency in disbursing the disability fund.
