Accra, Dec. 12, GNA – The Progressive Intellectuals (PI) have extended a congratulatory message to President-elect John Dramani Mahama, following his victory in the 2024 presidential election.
The group, made up of academics and intellectuals from various universities in Ghana, expressed its approval of the outcome of the polls, describing it as a reflection of the public’s discontent with the outgoing administration.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, and signed by PI President, Professor Yunus Dumbe, the group expressed that the election result reflected the public’s rejection of what they described as the “poor leadership, economic mismanagement, and over-politicization of state institutions” under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government.
“The outstanding performance of the NDC and His Excellency John Dramani Mahama in the just-ended general elections were, therefore, a verdict on the maladministration of the outgoing regime,” the statement read.
The PI commended the NDC’s manifesto and the moral integrity of President-elect Mahama, expressing optimism that his leadership would translate into tangible positive outcomes for the country.
“The resounding victory gives hope to Ghanaians that this election will bring about the necessary changes that will benefit our collective aspirations as a people,” the statement added.
While acknowledging the daunting challenges ahead, particularly in addressing the country’s economic difficulties and restoring good governance, the PI expressed confidence in the incoming administration’s ability to navigate these obstacles.
The group also reiterated its support for the government’s efforts in transforming the economy and revitalizing state institutions.
“We are confident that the challenges will be smoothly circumvented,” the PI stated, reaffirming their commitment to assisting the government in its efforts to reset the country’s agenda for growth and development.
The PI emphasized that as intellectuals and academics with expertise in diverse fields, they are ready to contribute their knowledge and skills in any relevant roles that align with the new government’s policies to bring about the structural, institutional, and policy changes necessary for Ghana’s progress.
“Our expertise cuts across various disciplines, which can be tapped into for any relevant roles and responsibilities,” the group said, added.
“We once again congratulate the NDC and His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and look forward to seeing the much-needed growth and transformation in Ghana under your leadership,” the statement said.
