Accra, Dec 6, GNA – Former Nigerian President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has arrived in Accra at the helm of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) observation mission, ahead of Ghana’s December 7, 2024, general elections.
In an arrival statement issued by his spokesperson, Dr. Jonathan urged Ghanaians to prioritise patriotism and work towards ensuring a peaceful, free, and transparent electoral process.
The WAEF delegation includes Mr. Kadre Ouedraogo, former Prime Minister of Burkina Faso and ex-President of ECOWAS, Ms. Ann Iyonu, Executive Director of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, and Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, Special Adviser to Dr. Jonathan and head of media and communications.
Dr. Jonathan also called on Ghana’s Electoral Commission and security agencies to uphold their mandates of independence and neutrality to guarantee a credible election process.
Commending the Ghanaian people for their steadfast commitment to democracy, the former President highlighted Ghana’s legacy of peaceful political transitions as a shining example of democratic governance across Africa.
The WAEF observation mission aims to support the integrity of the electoral process while promoting peace and stability in Ghana during and after the elections.
