Accra, Dec. 11, GNA – President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially inaugurated the 2024 Joint Transition Team, which will oversee the peaceful transfer of power in Ghana.
This follows the recent election of John Dramani Mahama as the new President in the December 7 General Election, where he secured a decisive victory with 56.55 per cent of the total valid votes.
Both the outgoing President and the President-elect will serve as co-Chairpersons of the Transition Team.
President Akufo-Addo congratulated Mr. Mahama on his resounding electoral success, noting that the election results clearly reflected the will of the Ghanaian people.
He emphasized that the outcome reinforced Ghana’s standing as a model of democracy and good governance in sub-Saharan Africa.
The President expressed confidence that the transfer of power would proceed smoothly and transparently, ensuring continued political stability, and reiterated his support for the incoming administration.
The Government side of the Transition Team, appointed under the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), includes: Ms. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Head of the Presidential Staff; Godfred Yeboah Dame, Attorney-General; and Mr. Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Minister for Presidential Affairs.
Other members are Mr. Henry Quartey, Minister for the Interior; Dr. Mohammed Amin Adams, Finance Minister; Mr. Dominic Nitiwul, Minister of Defence; Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration; Mr. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Minister of Local Government; and Mr. Albert Kan Dapaah, Minister of National Security.
For the President-elect’s side, the appointed members arinclude Mr. Julius Debrah (Co-Chairperson), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Mr. Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, Dr. Callistus Mahama (Member/Secretary), Dr. Valerie Sawyer, Professor Kwamena Ahwoi, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Mr. Mahama Ayariga, Mr. Goosie Tanoh, and Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
Additionally, the President-elect has nominated Mr. Edward Doe Adjaho, former Speaker of Parliament, to join the Transitional Advisory Council.
