Accra, Dec. 10, GNA – The Frimpong-Manso Institute ( FMI) has joined the chorus of congratulations for former President John Dramani Mahami and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for sweeping the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections in a historic fashion.
In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, the Institute also commended his main contender, Vice President Dr Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia, for his splendid display of political maturity and civility in conceding defeat.
It said the relatively peaceful contest for the most consequential office in the land and the timeous concession of defeat added an incredible gloss to Ghana’s reputation as the beacon of democratic accomplishment in Africa.
The Frimpong-Manso Institute accordingly saluted all the political parties, candidates, the Electoral Commission and the Election Security Task Force for their invaluable contributions to the just ended democratic exercise.
“The voters and the general public also deserve fulsome praise for being a highly significant equation of the success story.”
“We, however, express serious apprehension and grave concern about the loss of three precious lives as well as the pockets of violence in several parts of the country”, it said.
The statement said the Frimpong-Manso Institute underlined the point that violence and democracy did not belong to the same sentence.
“These unfortunate incidents must be investigated immediately, and the perpetrators punished swiftly within the ambit of the law”, it added.
The Institute also demanded a mechanism to aid speedy release of election results and the elimination of inordinate delays, which bred avoidable tensions and suspicions of result manipulation.
