Accra, Dec.9, GNA – The streets of Kotoku in the Amasaman Constituency Monday fell quiet after the official declaration of the Presidential election results by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Fati, a hairdresser and supporter of the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC), shared with the GNA that the celebration had already taken place on Sunday, December 8, 2024, the day after the elections, when unofficial results were announced.
Although most people had returned to their normal routines, a few shops remained closed, and occasional honking and vuvuzelas could still be heard. Despite this, the area maintained a peaceful atmosphere.
Electoral Commissioner Madam Jean Mensa declared Mr. John Dramani Mahama the winner of the Presidential election, with 6,328,397 votes (56.55 per cent).
His main rival, outgoing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), secured 4,657,304 votes (41.61 per cent).
Other candidates’ results included Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar) with 84,478 votes (0.05 per cent), Alan Kyerematen with 31,202 votes (0.28 per cent), Nana Akosua with 23,397 votes (0.21 per cent), and Hassan Ayariga with 17,461 votes (0.16 per cent).
The election was held on December 7, 2024, and the results were announced 48 hours later, not without incidents of unrest in areas like Dome-Kwabenya, Damango, and others.
Madam Mensa clarified that results from nine constituencies, including Nsawam, Suhum, Akwatia, Dome-Kwabenya, Damango, and Ahafo-Ano, were excluded due to disruptions at Electoral Commission offices.
However, she confirmed that even if these areas were included, the overall outcome would not have changed.
