Accra, Dec. 10, GNA – President-elect John Dramani Mahama, has expressed gratitude to the people of Ghana for offering him another opportunity to serve them again as their next leader.

The President-elect, delivering his victory speech a few hours after the Electoral Commission (EC) declared him as the winner of Ghana’s Election 2024 presidential race, urged the citizenry to see his victory as one for every Ghanaian.

Mr Mahama won the election with 56.55 per cent of the total valid votes cast.

He said, “Every victory is a victory for all of the people, the President-elect. Let us be brief in our celebration, for the weight of office will be an onerous one. Expectations of Ghanaians are very high, and we cannot afford to fail them.

“Let us maintain and even magnify this joy and positivity that we feel. We have arrived at this moment because so many of you believed that change was possible. And now we know that not only is change possible, but it is also already in process,” he said.

He called on Ghanaians to continue to believe in their move towards the country they wanted, hoped or dreamt of.

President-elect Mahama said he humbly accept the clear mandate of the people, and promised to assemble and lead a government that would carry the weight of those hopes and dreams.

He indicated that each time the country had a free and fair election and proceeded into a smooth transfer of power, it reaffirmed that its history of leadership and trailblazing was not an aberration.

He said despite being a relatively small nation, Ghana had been and would continue to be a mighty force on the world stage, with its some of its people serving in various notable global institutions including the United Nations.
