Accra, Dec. 10, GNA – The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has validated the presidential results of the December 7 polls as announced by the Electoral Commission (EC).

According to the Coalition, the figures declared by Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, EC Chairperson, based on 267 constituencies, aligned with their Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) methodology.

Dr. Fred Degbey, Co-Chair of CODEO, disclosed this during a press conference in Accra on Monday.

“The candidates official results announced so far (for the 267 constituencies) are consistent with the PVT estimates,” he said.

Mrs. Mensa Monday declared Mr. John Dramani Mahama, presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the winner of Ghana’s 2024 Presidential election.

She announced that Mr. Mahama received 6,328,397 votes, which accounted for 56.55 per cent of the total valid votes cast in 267 out of 276 constituencies.

Mrs. Mensa also declared that his closest competitor, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the candidiate of the New Patriotic Party, garnered 4,657,304 votes, or 41.61 per cent of the votes cast.

She clarified that the results did not include data from nine constituencies due to submission challenges.

Dr. Degbey confirmed that Mr. Mahama’s result aligned with CODEO’s Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) methodology, showing him with 56.9 per cent, with a margin of error of +/- 1.2 per cent.

He also noted that Dr. Bawumia received 41.3 per cent, with a similar margin of error.

Dr. Degbey stated also that the figures for smaller parties and independent candidates matched the results generated by CODEO’s PVT methodology

“CODEO can confidently confirm that the final results of the 2024 presidential polls declared by the EC accurately reflects how Ghanaians voted in the December 7 polls,” he said.

Dr. Degbey, however, pointed out that the EC’s reported voter turnout did not fully align with the figures recorded by CODEO’s Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT).

He called on the Commission to recalculate the turnout figures.

Dr. Degbey praised the efforts of the EC, political parties, media, security agencies, election observers, and other stakeholders for their work in ensuring a smooth election process.

He also advised that these stakeholders reflect on the lessons learned from the 2024 election and consider how they can be applied to improve the quality of future elections.
