Bongo (U/E), Dec 09, GNA – Mr Charles Bawadua, a Legal Practitioner, has secured a landslide victory in the 2024 general election to retain the Bongo Constituency seat in the Upper East Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He polled 30,114 votes out of 39,642 valid votes cast to comfortably beat his only competitor, Madam Diana Aduko Aburiya of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who polled 9,528 votes.
This makes a dream Lawyer Bawadua held since 2015 come true, when he first contested the NDC primaries but lost to Mr Edward Bawa, the incumbent MP.
He decided not to contest the 2020 election primaries of the party but came back and beat the incumbent MP in the primaries in the run-up to the 2024 elections.
In a victory speech, the Legal Practitioner, who is also the Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission, expressed gratitude to the People of Bongo and the party faithful for the support and the overwhelming endorsement to lead the constituency.
He promised not to disappoint them, adding that, “very soon President John Mahama will be sworn in as president of this country and we will work to address the challenges imposed by the current government.”
He said he was aware of the numerous development challenges confronting the constituency and would work with the electorate, to collectively address them.
He reiterated his commitment to prioritise education, healthcare and youth employment to help improve the livelihoods of the people.
Meanwhile, in the presidential election results, former President John Dramani Mahama, who secured 31,084 votes beat the Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, his main contender and New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate for Election 2024, who had 7,040 votes.
