Adansi Akrofoum (Ash), Dec. 09, GNA – Mr Joseph Azumah, a 36-year-old businessman and the Parliamentary Candidate for the NDC in the 2024 elections, has snatched the Akrofuom constituency seat from the hands of the NPP.
Akrofuom has been a known NPP seat in the Ashanti region, since 1996.
However, the tsunami that hit the NPP in the 2024 elections did not spare the constituency seat, which had been occupied by the NPP since 1996.
The incumbent MP, Mr Alex Blankson, had occupied the seat for the NPP since 2016, when the then MP, Mr Appiah Pinkrah, who was also an NPP candidate stepped down.
Mr Azumah, a former Presiding Member of the Adansi South District Assembly and a Law Student, polled 10,103 as against the 8,589 obtained by the incumbent, Mr Alex Blankson.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP Presidential Candidate, obtained 8,899 votes as against 9,215 obtained by Mr John Dramani Mahama in the presidential race in the Akrofuom constituency.
The NDC is also said to have taken over the Adansi Asokwa and the Obuasi East seats from the NPP, but these are yet to be confirmed since the results are still in contention.
The NDC also maintained its hold on the New Edubease seat, confirming its resolve to gain firm grip in the Adansi enclave of the Ashanti region.
The party further retained its seats in the Ejura-Sekyeredumasi, Asawase and Sekyere Afram Plains constituencies.
If the Adansi Asokwa and Obuasi East seats are confirmed, NDC will now have seven seats in the Ashanti.
