Agona Nkwanta (WR), Dec 08, GNA – Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have allegedly attacked an Electoral Commission (EC) officer and an agent for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The chaotic scene erupted at the premises of the Ahanta West Collation Center in the Western Region.

According to the EC Official, Mr Ayuba Blankson, the incident occurred when he was returning to the ‘strongroom’ of the EC with some tea items and disposable cups in a polyethene bag.

He said after staying at the Collation Center throughout the night, he decided to get some Milo and tea items to serve his other colleagues with some hot beverages to sustain them to continue the collation.

The NDC supporters, who have been at the premises of the Collation Center since yesterday, became agitated and accused the EC officer of attempting to rig the election in favor of the ruling party.

They, therefore, took the things from him and searched through them to see if he had some items that might influence the outcome of the results.

The items were destroyed in the process by the supporters after manhandling him.

Meanwhile, a similar incident occurred when one female Agent for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was assaulted and molested when she was returning to the EC strongroom with her belongings.

The situation quickly escalated, with the NDC supporters attacking her and destroying some of her items in the process.

The police were quickly called in to intervene, and they managed to restore order and allowed her entry to the room.

The two incidents brought pandemonium to the ‘strongroom’ halting the process for some time as the EC and the NPP teams empathized with their members who went through the ordeal.

The EC officials condemned the attacks, stating that it would not tolerate any form of violence or intimidation during the process.
