Accra, Dec. 07, GNA – Madam Emily Lartey, an 86-year-old woman has demonstrated remarkable civic commitment by voting at the Holy Child Nursery Polling Station A in Sakumono Estate during Ghana’s 2024 General Elections.
Despite relying on a clutch for mobility, Madam Lartey made her way to the polling station early, determined to cast her ballot.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency after voting, she expressed deep concerns about the state of Ghana’s economy, emphasizing the need for reforms to improve the lives of ordinary citizens.
“The current economic challenges are affecting everyone, especially the vulnerable and elderly. It’s time to choose leaders who can deliver real solutions,” Madam Lartey stated.
The Octogenarian also urged voters to resist any form of manipulation or inducement, stressing the importance of making decisions based on competence and integrity.
Madam Lartey said, “Our current economic conditions is the reason why we should vote not just as a civic responsibility.”
“No one should allow themselves to be lured with gifts or promises that cannot be fulfilled,” she added.
Madam Lartey described the voting process as peaceful and commended the Electoral Commission for the orderly arrangements at the polling station.
She encouraged other voters to remain calm and vigilant as the election progresses.
Polling officials at Holy Child Nursery Polling Station A confirmed a steady turnout, with residents describing the atmosphere as calm and encouraging.
The Tema West Constituency, a strong hold of the governing NPP, is one of the three constituencies within the Tema.
The NPP has consecutively won the seat the seat in the election in the fourth Republic of Ghana.
Mr Dennis Amfo-Sefah, popularly known as Nana Boakye, and a former parliamentary candidate for the NDC, Mr. James Enu are contesting the Tema West Parliamentary seat.
In all, some 13,4611 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots in the constituency.
The Constituency has 11 electoral areas covering Tema Communities Two, Three, Five, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 23, 24, Sakumono Village, Sakumono Estate, Baatsona, Kotobabi, Lashibi, Klagon, Borteyman, King Solomon, Suncity, Promise Land, and Adjei Kojo.
