Kumasi Dec. 07, GNA – Counting of ballots has begun in polling centres across the 47 constituencies in the Ashanti region.
A total of 3,019,178 registered voters were expected to cast their votes in 7,100 polling centres in the region to elect a president and Members of Parliament.
A total of 142 candidates filed their nominations to contest the 47 constituency seats in the region.
Out of this, 23 were female, while 22 stood as independent candidates.
Voting across polling centres had been generally peaceful and smooth as no major incidents were recorded during the voting.
However, Mr Kwaku Fokuo, an NDC youth organizer for the Atwima Kwanwoma constituency and his son, were arrested by the police for allegedly trying to put fake thumb-printed ballots into the ballot box at the Ofoase Methodist primary school polling centre.
They are currently in police custody.
Collation centres in the various constituencies have been set up by the Electoral Commission to collate the results from the polling stations.
