Dzodze (V/R), Dec. 7, GNA – There was a serene, peaceful atmosphere at Dzodze and other parts of the Ketu North Constituency as voters prepared to exercise their franchise in the December 7 general elections.
During visits by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to some polling stations earlier in the morning, no lines had formed yet, as polling officials were observed busily setting up materials in readiness for the voting process.
At about 0550hrs, officials at polling stations arranged ballot boxes, voter verification devices, and other materials, ensuring that everything was in place for the 0700hrs of voting. Security personnel were also present, ensuring order and safeguarding the voting materials.
Some early-arriving voters who spoke to GNA expressed their eagerness to cast their ballots and noted the calmness at the stations.
“I just arrived a few minutes ago and decided to wait for the process to begin. Everything looks organised so far,” one voter said.
Reports indicate that ballot materials, including ballot papers and voter lists, were carefully packed last night and dispatched early this morning to polling stations across the constituency. The Electoral Commission (EC) ensured that these materials were accompanied by security personnel to prevent any disruptions.
Polling officials at the various centers expressed confidence in the smooth execution of the process, attributing the calm atmosphere to proper planning and the cooperation of voters and security agencies.
“We are optimistic that today’s election will proceed without any hitches.
“We are ready, and all the necessary materials are in place,” one presiding officer told GNA.
Voters were reminded to adhere to electoral protocols, including maintaining order, verifying their names on the voter roll before casting their votes.
The calm and organised beginning of the election in the Ketu North reflects the constituency’s commitment to a peaceful and democratic process.
The EC and security agencies continue to monitor proceedings to ensure that the day unfolds without incident.
The Ketu North Constituency is one of two constituencies in the Volta Region without an incumbent Member of Parliament seeking re-election. As a result, the parliamentary race in the
constituency is highly competitive, with four candidates vying for the seat alongside the presidential contest.
The candidates include Enoch Kwabla Amegbletor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Pascaline Kassah representing the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Hadzah Shelta Ziodofe Kwesi of the National Democratic Party (NDP), and Eric Edem Agbana of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This development has generated heightened interest among voters, as each candidate seeks to present their vision for the constituency while vying to secure the mandate of the people.
