Voting underway in Ablekuma South

Accra, Dec. 7, GNA – Voting is underway in the Ablekuma South Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

At 0530 hours when the Ghana News Agency visited some polling stations, electoral officials were setting up the stations for voting to commence on time.

Party agents as well as security personnel were also stationed, with pockets of voters waiting patiently in queues to cast their ballots.

Electoral officials and party agents inspected electoral materials after which all parties put their seals on the ballot box.

Mr Benjamin Rexford Addo, Presiding Officer for Mamprobi Ebenezer 1 polling station ‘A’, said voting started at about 0723 hours and that some 527 voters were expected to vote at the station.

At the Mamprobi Ebenezer polling station B, voting commenced at about 0750 hours.

Mr Desmond Dodoo, Presiding Officer for the station, said about 672 electorate were expected to cast their votes at the centre.

“Although some voters expressed frustration due to the relatively late start, the process has been smooth since we began and they have been comforting themselves,” he said.

Voting is also going on smoothly at the Mamprobi Methodist JHS 1.

Twelve candidates are in the presidential race, with four battling for the parliamentary seat.

Mr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the incumbent, is contesting Mr Samuel Sarbah Lartey of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Joshua Commey of the Liberal Party Ghana (LPG) and James Lamptey, an Independent Candidate.
