Ada, Dec. 06, GNA – Mr Ebenezer Ayiku Akuaku Anderson, Chairman of the Federation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Ada East, has urged all PWDs in the Ada Constituency to eschew any form of violence during the election.
Mr Anderson also appealed to the electoral officers to have patience with the PWDs when they visit the polling centres to vote.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Ada, he lauded the efforts of the Electoral Commission to give special treatment to some categories of persons, including the disabled, during previous elections, noting that such treatments boost the morale of the PWDs to participate in the electoral process.
He said even though working with PWDs sometimes could be frustrating, he expressed optimism in a good relationship and a conducive environment for both the disabled and the electoral officers if the officers could have patience, receive them warmly, and take them through the voting processes as they cast their ballots.
“I want to appeal to the ballot issuers, agents, and other officials to work patiently with the PWDs. Sometimes, working with a PWD is dicey, but if they can have a little patience with us, things will go well because we also want to vote just like anybody else except those without sound minds,” he emphasised.
Mr Akuaku also appealed to the EC to help the PWDs, especially the visually impaired, with enough tactile jackets to enable them to exercise their franchise uninterrupted and freely.
He further urged all presidential and parliamentary candidates to consider the status of PWDs and accept the outcome of the elections irrespective of their differences, urging them to resort to the use of the constitution and laws of Ghana if things do not go their way.
He also asked Ghanaians, especially the youth, to cast their ballots, celebrate peacefully, and continue living in peace as the elections.
