Accra, Dec.6, GNA-The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has outdoored a National Information Centre (NIC) to monitor this year’s General Election.

The NIC is one of CODEO’s major initiatives in the pursuit of transparent presidential and parliamentary elections tomorrow.

The Rev.Dr Fred Degbey and Mary Okpe Adeniyi, Co-chairs of CODEO together with Harriet Thompson, British High Commissioner to Ghana, commissioned the NIC on Friday, December 6, at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra (KAIPTC).

Cutting the ribbon to officially open the NIC, Madam Thompson said she was confident that CODEO would contribute its quota in ensuring a peaceful election.

Prior to the commissioning, Rev. Dr. Degbey said the NIC would serve as a central database with CODEO’s election observers across the country transmitting their findings from polling stations via SMS text messages.

He said that the observers had been adequately trained to avoid biases and ensure neutrality in their work.

Ms. Adeniyi urged the electorate to respect and observe the electoral rules.

She also advised the Electoral Commission (EC) to apply the electoral rules uniformly, asked political parties to refrain from inducing voters on the day of election and charged security personnel to ensure calm and serenity at the polling stations.
