Kumasi, Dec. 6, GNA – Nilex Corp Company Limited, producers and suppliers of medical equipment, has donated 15 ultrasound machines worth $150,000 to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) at a brief ceremony in Kumasi.
The donation which sought to improve maternal health forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
Mr. Alex Osei-Owusu, Legal Director of the company, who presented the equipment to the Director General of GHS, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye, said the equipment could function for 15 hours when fully charged, making them suitable for remote communities.
He said they had the capacity to determine a one-week pregnancy, sex of the baby and predict complications in fetus development.
“As a business operating in the health sector in Ghana, we believe we owe it a duty to support healthcare in the country as a corporate responsibility,” he stated.
Dr. Kuma Aboagye commended the company for its continuous support over the years and pledges the commitment of the Service to put the equipment to effective use.
He said the equipment would further enhance the primary healthcare system through the network of practice, a concept that seeks to promote primary healthcare in Ghana.
The network of practice is a system where a couple of facilities are interconnected to work together as a team to enhance their capability to serve and share resources, the Director General explained.
“This will be useful in the sense that you do not have to move patients to the machine, but you can move the machine to the patient. So, wherever they are whether a CHPS Compound, health center or a clinic within the network, this machine will come in handy,” he observed.
He said the Service had fortunately trained a lot of midwives to do ultrasound so the handling of the equipment would not pose any challenge.
