Tamale, Dec 03, GNA – Selected journalists in the northern part of the country have undergone a day’s training to enhance their capacity on combating misinformation and disinformation in the context of the upcoming general election.
It was also to enhance collaboration amongst various organisations involved in fact-checking and to equip participants to effectively communicate and verify information within their comm
The training was organised by Fact-Space West Africa in partnership with the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) with participants drawn from the Northern, Upper East, Upper West, North East, and the Savannah Regions.
Mr Rabiu Alhassan, Executive Director, Fact-Space West Africa, speaking during the workshop in Tamale, said it was to rally the support of the media to help relay accurate information and engage with audiences in their local languages.
Madam Sharon Willis Brown-Acquah, Programmes Officer in-charge of Fact-Checking, CDD-Ghana, emphasised the importance of fact-checking during elections, and underscored need to maintain integrity of news reporting, fostering public trust, combating misinformation and disinformation and empowering communities.
She urged the media to approach their work devoid of political, religious, and ethnic affiliations to avoid being biased.
