Tamale, Dec 03, GNA – The seventh congregation and investiture of the second Vice-Chancellor of the Tamale Technical University (TTU) has been held at the University’s campus in Tamale.
A total of 2,113 students graduated with various degrees whilst the new Vice-Chancellor of TTU, Professor Bashiru Ibn Imoro Saeed, was sworn into office to formally assume his duties.
Out of the total number of graduating students, 111 graduated with master’s degrees, 471 had first degrees, 162 had Competency-Based Training (CBT), 403 had Diplomas, 81 had Diploma in CBT, and 460 had certificates.
Some of the graduands, who distinguished themselves, were given various awards including the Best Engineering Student and the Overall Best Undergraduate Student Award, which went to Mr Abdulai Imoro. Mr Abdulai Bashiru received the Best Graduate Student Award, while Best Female Graduating Student went to Miss Beatrice Gaala. Best Graduating Diploma Student went to Mr Braimah Haruna Stephen.
They received cash prizes and citations.
Dr Alhassan Emil Abdulai, Chair, Governing Council, TTU, speaking during the ceremony in Tamale, said TTU was dedicated to shaping the minds and prospects of young people, equipping them with the skills, knowledge and innovative competencies required to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
He said the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor was done through a thorough process, and sought a person, who embodied the values and strategic vision necessary to lead the University into the future.
He said “Professor Bashiru comes with a wealth of experience, knowledge, and leadership in academia. We are confident that his visionary leadership will inspire our students, staff, and faculty, driving the University to new heights of academic achievement, and innovative research impacting our communities positively.”
He called on the University community to unite in their shared mission to ensure that the University remained a frontrunner in technical and vocational education, applied research, and societal transformation.
Professor Saeed, in his acceptance speech, said he would focus on the infrastructure development of the University.
He said, “One of the areas of my strategy will be the expansion and modernisation of our infrastructure as we know that a robust, and forward-looking infrastructure is a sine qua non for our ability to support academic excellence and innovative research.”
Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, Northern Regional Minister, whose speech was read on his behalf, congratulated the new Vice-Chancellor and the entire graduating students, and encouraged them to utilise the skills and knowledge acquired to make positive impact on society and family.
He said “Though, we are aware of the infrastructural problems confronting you, we would do all we can to provide the needed facilities to enhance quality teaching and learning.”
