Accra, Dec 03, GNA – The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has commissioned a new Fire Station at Bogoso in the Western Region to enhance the safety and well-being of the people.
The Bogoso Fire Station will serve as a destination for fire safety education, fire prevention, and fire response services and enable personnel to respond to emergencies faster, more effectively, and efficiently.
Mr Henry Quartey, Minister for the Interior, in a speech delivered on his behalf by the Deputy Minister, said a fire Station was indispensable for a rapidly developing town like Bogoso, particularly given its economic reliance on gold mining and the influx of businesses that drive the local economy.
“This facility will not only protect lives and property but also safeguard the investments that fuel the community’s growth”, he added.
He explained that fire outbreaks were a significant threat to development and as such preventing them requires the collective effort of all stakeholders.
Mr Quartey urged the people of Bogoso to care for the Station and the fire Officers who would work tirelessly to ensure their safety.
He noted that acts of violence against personnel or the misuse of the facility would hinder its intended purpose.
He charged fire Officers posted to the place to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, and commitment.
“Your role extends beyond firefighting; it includes educating the public on fire prevention and dispelling myths about your work. Engage with the community to foster understanding and trust,” the Minister advised.
Chief Fire Officer (CFO), Julius A. Kuunuor, said the Bogoso Fire Station, which represents the first phase of a groundbreaking two-phase project, shows that when Traditional Leaders, Institutions, and Communities come together with a collective objective, a lot could be achieved.
He said the new Fire Station represents the solution to protect lives property, and livelihoods from devastating fire outbreaks.
The CFO assured the people of Bogoso and all stakeholders that with the dedication and hard work of personnel, this station would be a beacon of excellence, delivering faster and more professional services to protect lives and property in the community and surrounding environs.
” In as much as our personnel will do their best to safeguard the community, the onus of fire prevention is a shared responsibility,” he stated.
CFO Kuunuor urged the people to take proactive steps, remain vigilant, and collaborate with the GNFS to reduce fire and related incidents.
He said “I am optimistic that the second phase of this project, which includes a training center and residential apartments for fire personnel, will be completed soon.
He expressed appreciation to the Local Management Committee of the Minerals Development Fund, the traditional leaders, and the people of Bogoso for their unwavering support.
“Your financial investments and dedication to this project are proof of the importance and value you place on the safety and well-being of the community,” the CFO said.
