Wa, (UW/R), Dec. 2, GNA – The special voting exercise for the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections has started smoothly at the Wa Circuit Court “A” and “B” polling centres in the Wa Central Constituency.
A total of 967 special voters are expected to cast their ballot at those centres comprising 484 voters at the Centre “A” and 483 voters at the Centre “B”.
At about 0813hours when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the Polling centre “A”, 58 people had cast their votes while 84 people had voted at the Circuit Court “B” polling station.
Dr. Joseph K. Wulifan, the Presiding Officer for the Circuit “A” polling centre in the Special Voting, told the GNA the process started smoothly at 0700hours.
He said all the people who had voted at the polling station went through the Biometric Verification except one who went through manual verification because she could not be verified by the Biometric Verification Device (BVD).
Dr. Wulifan indicated that two prospective voters could not find their names in the special voters’ register probably because they did not register to vote in the special voting.
At the Centre “B,” Mr Adams Iddrisu Thirdman, the Presiding Officer for that centre “B,” said the exercise also started smoothly at that centre and only one voter went through facial verification to vote because that voter could not be verified by the BVD.
The two Presiding Officers expressed confidence that all the voters would cast their ballots before the stipulated closing time of 1700hours.
Four candidates are contesting in the parliamentary elections in the Wa Central Constituency.
They are, Dr. Hassan Rashid Pelpuo, National Democratic Congress (NDC); Hajia Humu Awudu, New Patriotic Party (NPP); Mr Yakubu Zakaria, People’s National Convention (PNC); and Mr Rashid Saeed, an independent candidate.

Officials from the electoral commission (EC), arrived at centre at about 0600hours to start the process. The voting started exactly at 0700hours.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) spotted agents for New patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) at the centre.
Mr Hilleh Nicholas, the Presiding Officer, said the process was smooth and expressed hope that it would end smoothly.
As at 0745hours, 30 persons had cast their ballot out of the 299 on the special voting list.
At Funsi in the Wa East Constituency, the process started on time with the first person casting his ballot at exactly 0712hours.
