2024 Special Voting: More than 7,000 to participate in Upper East

Bolgatanga, Dec 2, GNA – Ahead of Ghana’s 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections on Saturday, December 7, a total of 7,080 are set to participate in the special voting on Monday across the 15 constituencies in the Upper East Region.

The Electoral Commission (EC) says all is set for the special voting to take place in all the constituencies from 0700 to 1700 hours.

Statistics from the EC shows that the Bolgatanga Central constituency has the highest number of special voters of 849, while th Navrongo Central, Bongo, Chiana-Paga and Zebilla have 620, 603, 578 and 549 voters, respectively.

The other constituencies are Talensi, 527, Bawku Central, 526, Builsa North, 520, Pusiga, 478, Binduri, 474 and Tempane, 407.

The rest are Bolgatanga East, 335, Builsa South, 305, Garu, 201 and Nabdam, 108 voters.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga Monday morning, Mr William Obeng Adarkwa, the Upper East Regional Director of the EC, said all materials for the conduct of the election were ready.

He assured the public of the EC’s resolve to conduct a free, fair and transparent election and encouraged all eligible voters to participate in the process to choose the country’s leaders.

“We plead that you go there with your voter ID card, no party colours and we also expect the party agents to be there early before start of the voting and if there is an issue, consult the presiding officer,” he added.

He urged Ghanaians to abide by all the rules and regulations governing the election to ensure a peaceful and transparent elections to deepen the country’s democracy.

In the Bolgatanga Central constituency, Mr Isaac Adongo, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) and parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is contesting with Mr Elvis Atia Awonekai of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Mr Peter Akunlibe of the People’s National Convention (PNC).

In Bolgatanga East, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine of the NDC is battling it out with Mr Matthew Silas Amoah of the NPP and Mr Edwin Atia of the Progressive Alliance for Ghana (PAG), while in the Chiana-Paga constituency, Mr Robert Aloo of the NPP is contesting Mr Nikyema Billa Alamzy of the NDC for the seat.

In the Builsa South constituency, Dr Clement Abas Apark of the NDC is contesting with Mr Daniel Kwame Gariba of the NPP, and Mr Seidu Christopher Akanzeboka of the PNC.

Mr James Agalga of the NDC, Mr Kofi Thomas Alonsi of the NPP and Mr Ransford Joseph Asuok of the PNC are contesting the Builsa North seat.

Simon Akibange Aworigo of the NDC and Otito Werseh Achuliwor Abdallah of the NPP are contesting the Navrongo Central constituency seat, while Charles Bawaduah, NDC, is also battling it out with Madam Diana Aduko Aburiya, NPP, in the Bongo constituency.

In the Talensi constituency, Daniel Dung Mahama, NDC, is contesting with Robert Ayinenaba Alibo, NPP, and Dr Michael Wombeogo of the PNC, while Dr Mark Kurt Nawaane of the NDC and Mr Charles Taleo Ndanbon, NPP, are contesting the Nabdam seat.

In Bawku Central, Mr Mahama Ayariga of the NDC is seeking reelection as he contests Mr Paul Atale Agobiri of the NPP and Emmanuel Anaba, All People’s Congress (APC).

In the Zebilla constituency, Mr Ebenezer Alumire Ndebilla of the NDC, Dr John Kingsley Krugu of the NPP and Madam Patience Akparipoka Ndebugre, an Independent candidate, are contesting.

The Garu constituency has Madam Lardi Georgina Azumah of the NPP and Mr Thomas Winsum Anabah, NDC contesting.

Mr Hanan Abdul-Wahab of the NPP, Madam Laadi Ayii Ayamba of the NDC and Mr Paul Simon Anaba are vying for the Pusiga seat.

At Tempane, Mr Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, NPP, is battling it out with Madam Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba of the NDC while in Binduri, Mr Abdulai Abanga of the NPP will be seeking reelection in a contest with Issifu Mahmoud of the NDC and Mr Alale Amadu, APC.
