Sokpoe (V/R), Dec 2, GNA – Togbega Kadzi Zogah II, the President of the Tongu Chiefs Union, has urged traditional leaders within the Tongu state to promote peaceful elections to entrench Ghana’s democratic governance.
As the country prepared for presidential and parliamentary polls on December 7, he advised traditional leaders to caution their subjects against electoral violence, vote buying, and other unlawful activities.
Togbe Zugah told the Ghana News Agency that elections should be about sharing ideas and manifestos, not physical strength or insults.
“Elections are not wars, and we must not allow our differences to tear us apart. It is our responsibility as chiefs and queenmothers to promote peace, stability, and the rule of law,” he said.
“Our subjects will still coexist after the polls, regardless of the outcome.”
The President, therefore, urged the chiefs and queenmothers to accept the outcome of the elections and bolster same in their various traditional areas.
He expressed his desire to see Tongu declared as an “election violence-free” state, which would be a significant achievement for the Union.
“This achievement will not only reflect positively on our union but also contribute to Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.”
