Anloga, (V/R), November 28, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has taken its cinema van show to Keta to engage residents on the importance of peaceful elections in December
The cinema, which was held Wednesday night at Tettekope in the Vui Electoral area in the Keta Municipality had residents including children and adults trouping to the community centre to watch a series of videos on the effects of war and civil unrest.
A simulation the Commission believes will give voters insight on why they need to choose peace instead of violent behaviours.
They telecasted movies and documentaries on election violence including “Cry Freetown” a documentary on accounts of victims of the 1999 Sierra Leone War that captured the most brutal moments of the war.
Madam Irene Minston-Amihere, Assistant Director of Programmes, NCCE Accra, shared with GNA that the program was meant to educate the public to stay away from election violence but embrace peace.
She also indicated the area was strategically chosen because it was identified as one of the flashpoints in te Region.
“The idea was to give voters the results of war and civil unrest, a situation we believe will let them embrace peace,”
Madam Amina Amadu, Assistant Director, NCCE Accra, also advised the youth, especially first-time voters, to cast their votes based on issues. She led a demonstration on how to perfectly thumbprint on the ballot paper to reduce the rate of rejected ballots this year.
