Abesim, (B/R), Nov. 25, GNA – The Kings City Assembly of the Sunyani South Industrial Estate District of the Church of Pentecost, at the weekend organised a health screening exercise for the congregation to know their various health conditions.

The Optimal Wellness Association, a group that promotes general wellbeing of people, partnered the church for the screening.

In all, about 250 members of the church participated in the exercise, which was led by a team of medical officers and health workers drawn from some local hospitals and clinics in the Sunyani Municipality.

The health workers voluntarily screened the beneficiaries for HIV and AIDS, hepatitis, sugar levels, diabetes, blood pressure, and body mass index and eye conditions and those with serious health conditions were referred to health facilities for medical care.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the side-lines of the exercise, Elder Michael Agyemang Debrah, the Presiding Elder of the King Assembly, advised Ghanaians to prioritise their heath and do regular medical check-ups.

He expressed the regret that some people visited health facilities only when they were sick or experienced abnormalities in their body systems, and urged local clinics and health centres to endeavour to offer affordable services for health screening and medical check-ups.

Elder Debrah also urged everybody to endeavour to go for medical check-up at least once a year to know their blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar levels and related health conditions, while expressing appreciation to the health workers for exercise.

“Our goal is to support the holistic well-being of our community providing opportunities for the people to access quality healthcare,” he stated.
