By James Esuon

Nyakrom (C/R), Oct 07, GNA- The Garment and Apparel Model of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has presented sewing machines to 80 apprentice trainees at Nyakrom to facilitate the completion of their training programme.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Chris Arthur, the Technical Director of Services at YEA said the government was committed to ensuring that the youth, particularly young girls, acquired skills training to help them to be economically Independent.

The Technical Director, who is also the parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Agona West Constituency for Election 2024, noted that it was towards that direction that the government was pursuing aggressive policies and programmes to empower the youth with job opportunities.

He urged the beneficiaries to stay focused in their quest to acquire skills to avert becoming liabilities in society.

Mr Arthur debunked rumours allegedly being peddled by the camp of Agona West MP, Mrs Cynthia Morrison who is contesting as Independent Candidate against him that he had stolen sewing machines and kept at them in a warehouse of the MP.

He declared that the allegations were untrue and that the MP had completely lost touch with the electorate.

Mr Arthur was optimistic that the people would vote massively for him as MP and Dr Bawumia as President on December 7, 2024, to continue their governance to enhance the well-being of the people.

Mr Oscar Asare, Agona West Municipal Director of YEA denied allegations in the constituency by some political opponents that he had sold machines meant for distribution to the trainees.

He said the Garment and Apparel model of YEA was instituted by two years ago to equip the youth with skills training after graduating from either BECE or SHS to enable them to live decent lives.

The Municipal Director of YEA said the 80 trainees would continue to receive their allowances of GHC 500 every month for two years till they complete their apprenticeship training.

He therefore called on the youth of Agona West to vote massively for Dr Bawumia as President and Mr Chris Arthur as MP in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

Nana  Tutuwaah V, Paramount Queen Mother of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, urged the beneficiaries to thank the government for giving them the opportunity to learn employable skills to improve their living standards.

The Paramount Queen Mother cautioned the trainees to desist from negative tendencies that may thwart their efforts to complete their apprenticeship programme since the government had spent large sums of money on them.

The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the government and pledged to vote massively for the PC for Agona West NPP and Dr Bawumia in the December 7, 2024, elections.
