Sogakope (V/R), Sept. 20, GNA – Mr Albert Kofi Owusu, General Manager of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), has emphasised the importance of continuous training and development for staff to enhance their skills and stay competitive in the media landscape.

He said the GNA was a powerful institution that must have its staff undergo constant training, when he addressed some staff of the Agency undertaking a four-day training workshop at Sogakope.

He said the training was important because GNA fed the larger media market and was expanding to multimedia or digital media sector, an indication of determination to build the capacity of staff.

Mr Owusu said despite the financial challenges, Management would continue to do its best to get things running and commended the facilitators for a fantastic job done while calling on the participants to make use of the knowledge gained by allowing it to reflect in their output.

“Let us work hard and project the GNA out there”.

Dr Kwaku Agbesi, Deputy Project Coordinator, Post COVID-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Project (PSDPEP), said the delivery and participation by facilitators and participants were impressive.

“You have really exhibited to us that this particular aspect of the project was really by GNA”.

He said they would continue to work with the Agency to do many things including the procurement equipment for the staff and the Agency.

Dr Agbesi said there was another package of training for the staff which would build the capacity of staff in their areas of specialization.

He said there would be some face-lifts of the head office and some offices of the Agency across the country.

The training forms part of the Post COVID-19 Skills Development and Productivity Enhancement Project (PSDPEP), a Government of Ghana initiative funded by the African Development Bank through the Social Investment Fund and being implemented by Institute for Digital Marketing and Communication (IDMC) Ghana.

By investing in staff development, GNA seeks to maintain its position as a leading news agency in Ghana, providing accurate, timely and engaging content to the public.
