Accra, April 29, GNA – The F. Alpha and Omega Specialist Hospital is to register 10,000 people onto the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to enable them access quality and free medical care.
The hospital has so far registered 2,000 people, who are now enjoying free medical care.
The other 8,000 will be registered on the scheme in the next few weeks.
Mr. Francis Fosu, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at the hospital’s ongoing free registration and health screening at Adenta on Monday.
He said it was the policy of the hospital to support the community in which it operated by assisting the underprivileged in society in obtaining medical care.
“It is evident that the impoverished members of society face difficulties in obtaining higher quality health care treatments,” Mr. Fosu said.
He said the goal of the hospital was to offer everyone access to high-quality healthcare, adding that, “I am satisfied with my work when I am able to assist someone who is in need of medical care but does not have the means to pay for it.”
Mr. Fosu called on Ghanaians to desist from self-medication since such attitude worsened the situation of the patient.
“If you are sick, please go to the hospital for the medical Officer to diagnose you and offer you the necessary medicine. Do not go and hide behind somewhere and do self-medication, Mr. Fosu added.
The 120-bed facility provides specialty surgical treatments, paediatric, obstetric, gynaecological and prenatal services in addition to in-patient and general out-patients department.
