Accra, Jan 22, GNA – Mr Benjamin Narteh Ayiku, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ledzokuku Constituency, has broken ground for the construction of a 30-bed ultra-modern polyclinic to serve the people of Teshie and its environs.

The project, which is valued at about two million Ghana Cedis, is being financed from the MP’s Common Fund with support from Joberg Construction and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, which provided land for the project.

The project which has been divided into two phases is expected to span a period of twelve months, with the first phase expected to be completed in six months.

The MP noted that the provision of the facility is in fulfillment of his promise to transform the community’s health centre into an ultra-modern polyclinic.

“The health of the people of Ledzokuku remains my priority”, he said.

The poly-clinic would not only complement the LEKMA Hospital in healthcare delivery to the large Teshie community, but also help ease the long queues patients have had to go through to access medical attention.

The LEKMA Hospital had seen significant increase in attendance, seeing patients from areas such as Nungua and La since the reconstruction of the La General Hospital started in 2020.

Mr Ayiku said, considering the difficulty residents go through in accessing healthcare, he had accumulated a percentage of his common fund to put up the ultra-modern polyclinic to aid community members.

He said although the Teshie community had a four-bed community health center, the privacy of patients was always compromised stating, “both males and females, as well as pregnant women are admitted in the same room.”

He expressed appreciation to Joberg Construction and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, for releasing land for the polyclinic.

Ms Jacqueline Sfarijlani, the Municipal Director of Health, who described the project as timely, said, the health Directorate was gravely handicapped in addressing the health needs of the people.

She noted that available health facilities were unable to meet all the needs of the people as the population of the area far exceeded the available capacity.

Some residents who spoke to the GNA, were full of joy, as according to them, the polyclinic would go a long way to alleviate their plight in accessing health care.

They commended the MP for his sacrifices, especially using his personal resources to help bring growth to the constituency.

Mrs Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the MP for Krowor constituency, who was at the ceremony, called on the residents to own the construction of the Polyclinic and ensure its successful completion.

She said, sustainable development does not occur in a day, and urged the electorates to give the Ledzokuku MP all the support as he strives to provide their development needs.

The MP for La-Dadekotopon, Madam Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, entreated residents to be watchdogs over the project, ensuring that materials are used for the intended purpose.

For his part, Isaac Ashai Odamtey, the MP for Tema East, in acknowledging the efforts of Mr Ayiku, reiterated the call for all to support the Ledzokuku MP.
