Retired Commissioned Officers donate to Volta MPs Caucus

Accra, Dec 8, GNA – The Retired Commissioned Officers Association (RCOA), has presented food items and clothing to the Volta Caucus Members of Parliament to support communities and individuals affected by floods resulting from the Akosombo Dam spillage.

The items which were valued at GHC50,000 include 50 (25kg) bags of rice, 20 cartons of cooking oil, bottled water and used clothing.

Brig. Gen. Samuel Yanyi-Akofur (retd), President of the RCOA who led the association, at brief ceremony at Parliament House said, the items were meant to bring some form of relief to victims of the spillage.

He said, having lived a life of service, members of the association considered it prudent to offer their support in the the relief efforts for the flood victims.

Brig Gen Yanyi-Akofur who assured also, of the association’s commitment to ensuring peace and security, said they would continue to offer support when the need arose.

“Even though we are retired, we are not tired of serving,” he said.

Receiving the items, Mr Peter Nortsu Kortoe, MP for Akasti North and Secretary to the Caucus expressed gratitude to the RCOA for the intervention, and said that the donation would offer some relief to flood victims, and particularly to the MPs whose constituencies have been affected by the spillage.
