NCCE educates basic school children on values of nationalism

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/R), July 15, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Dormaa Central Municipality has schooled basic school children in the area about the values of nationalism and the need to expose wrongdoers in the society.

Mr Samuel Azerigo, the Municipal Programmes Officer of the Commission told the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Bono Region, that it was part of the Commission’s annual citizens’ week programme celebration.

He said the pupils and students were taught about how to be good and responsible citizens and participate effectively in programmes of public interest to bring their ideas to contribute to national development.

Mr. Azerigo added the event provided a platform to engage the children on national issues and some of them wanted to know how national resources were expended by those in authority.

He said it was a form of civic education and a continuous process, saying there were plans to sustain it to influence attitude and behavioral change among the youngsters and was optimistic they would share what they had been taught with others.

The “youth must know the process to take to seek their interests in the right way” Mr. Azerigo stated and also encouraged children to develop creative abilities rather than becoming passive consumers and end users of ideas and knowledge.

He advised children to tap wisdom and knowledge from older people and appealed to parents to draw closer to the children and monitor their movements to become conduits and radicals for terrorists’ groups and activities.
