Denu (VR), June 1, GNA- Mr Ability Yacub Adzagey, a businessperson has donated assorted facilities to Ativuta RC Basic School in the Ketu South Municipality to improve teaching and learning and for sports and music development.

The items donated included textbooks, 210 sets of uniforms for children, 210 pairs of shoes for children, 130 dual desks, 40 tables and chairs for the computer lab, 10 white marker boards, one LED projector, 26 laptops and a printer.

There were also two sets of football jerseys, two sets each of volleyball and handball jerseys for children, two handballs and net, two footballs and net, two volleyballs and net, football boots, shin-guards, bibs, hose, and the handball goal post.

The rests were brass band set and dance bar set in addition to an ongoing classroom block project comprising a computer lab, Science lab, library, storeroom, staff common room, staff accommodation, water closet toilets for both teachers and pupils and a fence wall around the school.

Speaking on behalf of Mr Adzagey at a ceremony to donate the items, his nephew, Mr Atsu Klugah explained the donation could not wait until the completion of the infrastructure project as they were needed for use to benefit the school and the community.

He said there were also plans to construct a sports arena on a 15-acre land he acquired in the community to promote sports and, institute a scholarship scheme to support indigenes in areas of science and technology education and Law noting, the dream was to have Ativuta known for something – either sports, education, or music.

Mr Adzagey called on the school to take safe care of the items for longevity to benefit current and future pupils to encourage him and others to do more for the school.

The native of Ativuta appealed to the teachers to give off their best to improve the academic performance of the school while charging the pupils to take their studies seriously.

Mr Gideon Aryee, headteacher at the school was grateful for the philanthropic deeds of Mr Adzagey which he said were also already leading to enrolment drive in the school saying, “we’re getting new pupils unlike before and just this morning, some parents brought their wards.”

Princess Lumorvi, a pupil in an interview said the developments ongoing in the school were enough morale boosters for them to study and excel and become good citizens of Ativuta.

Madam Mawukoenya Akpakli, a parent prayed for God’s blessings for Mr Adzagey saying, “for a long time, this school had struggled for almost everything and when we least expected it, this benevolent man has shown up to put things right in the school.”
