Accra, May 30, GNA – An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a man to a fine of 200 penalty units equivalent to GHC2,400.00 for causing unlawful harm.
In default, Daniel Adusei, would serve two years imprisonment.
The Court also ordered that he compensated Egbujor Walter, the complainant, with GHC3,000.00.
He pleaded not guilty to the offence but was found culpable after trial.
Police Chief Inspector Samuel Ahiabor told the Court that Egbujor Walter was a dietician and an Okada rider whereas the convict was a trader and resident of Dome Atomic Round-About.
On August 01, 2020, at about 2145 hours, Adusei employed the services of the complainant who was then working as an Okada Rider to take him from Kaneshie-Takoradi Station to his house at Dome Atomic Round-About, the Court, heard.
The prosecution said both parties whilst heading to the said destination had a misunderstanding, which led to convict causing harm to the complainant.
The prosecution said during investigation, the police established that the convict started sleeping while on the bike and lost his mobile phone.
Adusei later woke up from his slumber and realised that his mobile phone had fallen out of his hands and asked the complainant to return and use an unapproved road popularly called “one way” so he could look for his mobile phone.
The Complainant, the Court heard, having realised the consequences of using the said unapproved road, rejected the idea and went ahead to use the approved road and brought the accused person back to Kaneshie where he had picked him.
The prosecution said Adusei became offended and used a table metallic charger that weighed about fifteen kilogrammes to hit the complainant causing harm to his face.
It said eye witnesses rescued the complainant and handed Adusei over to the Police.
