GAA successfully holds third zonal circuit in Koforidua

Koforidua, March 28, GNA- The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has successfully held the third zonal circuit champion at the Koforidua Secondary Technical school over the weekend.

The competition drew participation from over 100 athletes from the Eastern region, Greater Accra, Volta and the Ashanti Region who competed in both the track and field events.

The circuit championship is to identify talents for the national team and also serve as preparations for top athletes ahead of international competitions.

At the end of the event, Rosemary Athur of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) came first in the Women 1500m with a time of 4:58.36s followed by Wasila Ibrahim also of GAF who completed the race with a time of 5:15.73.

In the men’s 400m race, Daniel Otibo of the Ghana Revenue Authority -Customs Division finished the race with 49.44s ahead of Israel Domey Anane and Etiam Kwaku Togbenu, whilst John Kofi Osei of GAF clocked 11.06 to place first, followed by Isaac Botsio and Solomon Kwaku Hammond in the men’s 100m race.

In the field event, Alhassan Adams of GAF came first with a jump of 1.95 whilst Bright Tsatsu and John Brefo came second and third respectively whereas Otchere Mensah won the Long Jump category with 6.93 ahead of Nti Ransford (6.78), and Joseph Adumah (6.63).

Emmanuel Okai of GAF excelled in the Triple Jump category whilst Seth Kokuro Asante, Mohammed Habila and Benjamin Numo won the Shot Put, Discus Throw and Javelin respectively.

In the Women’s category, Rebecca Aggrey, Theresa Osei, Aba Sam, Faustina Owusu and Comfort Otubea came first in the High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Discus Throw and Javelin Throw respectively.

Kumasi will host the nest athletics event on Saturday, April 2.
