Warsaw, Mar. 15, (dpa/GNa) – The prime ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia have departed in a train for the capital of war-torn Ukraine, Warsaw says.
The train, which is also carrying Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s deputy, Jarosław Kaczyński, has already crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border and is on its way to Kiev, according to Polish government spokesman Piotr Müller.
The European leaders plan to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister Denys Shmygal.
The decision to visit was taken at the summit of EU leaders in Versailles, France, on Friday, the Polish government official said. Warsaw has been planning the trip under strict secrecy for days and has coordinated the plans with EU Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
“The delegation de facto represents the European Union, the European Council,” Müller explained, adding that NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg and the US government had also been informed about the visit.
