Tel Aviv, Mar. 1, (dpa/GNA) – People who are not vaccinated against the coronavirus may enter Israel as tourists without special permission for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
Starting Tuesday, foreigners who want to visit have to conduct two polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, one before departure and one after entry. Until now, the rule has required proof of vaccination for entry.
Additionally, unvaccinated Israelis who return to the country are no longer required to enter five days of quarantine.
Infection rates have been dropping in Israel since the end of January. On Monday, the Health Ministry reported 10,869 new cases from the day before.
The number of seriously ill has also been in decline since the start of February. A day ago, it was only 534.
About 64% of Israel’s population is considered fully vaccinated.
