Accra, Feb.18, GNA- Los Angeles Dodgers, an American professional baseball team based in the United States of America (USA), has partnered with the Ghana Baseball and Softball Federation (GBSF) to help develop baseball in Ghana.
The partnership, themed “Creating Partnerships for the good of the people” would give opportunities to the youth in sports and education.
Mr Joe Harrington, Dodgers Africa Operations Director, expressed their excitement to partner GBSF saying “On behalf of myself, the team here and Los Angeles Dodgers as a whole we thank everyone and we are extremely grateful and humbled to be here today.
“Our mission is to inspire the continent on the field, in the classroom and most importantly as human beings.”
“We think that everyone deserves the opportunity to play baseball and have that service of the vehicle for other opportunities that they can provide, so we actually want to get everyone involved to help develop the sport, not only here in Accra but other regions.”
The President of the GBSF, Mr Ernest Danso speaking on the new partnership said the federation was on a mission to make baseball a household name in Ghana and also to make the sport a career based sport, hence the need to build partners in order to develop baseball in Ghana.
Mr Kenneth Annag, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) thanked the Los Angeles Dodgers team for choosing Ghana among the few countries to develop the sport and also commended them for their vision to involve all the 16 regions in the partnership.
Los Angeles Dodgers, for the past three years, have been able to develop baseball in Uganda and also give some individuals the chance to study abroad on scholarships aside from playing baseball.
