Accra, Feb.7, GNA – Engen Ghana Limited, a Petroleum Retail and Supply Company, has donated assorted items to Appiatse community.
The donation worth more than GHC60,000 was channelled through the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in Accra.
The items include 100 bags of rice, 200 cartons of starkist Tuna, 100 pieces of mosquito nets and 50 pieces of students’ mattresses.
Mr Brent Nartey, the Managing Director of the Company, said the donation was in line with the Company’s long -established Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, which focuses on improving livelihoods and benefitting society.
He said the Company believed that “the best way of living is giving”, hence their support and called on local businesses and community members who are in position to help to do so to support the relief effort.
The Managing Director, on behalf of the Company, expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
Mr Abu Ramadan, the Deputy Director-General of NADMO, in-charge of Operations, thanked Engen Ghana Limited for the support and urged others to emulate the gesture.
He assured the donors that the items would be sent to the victims and urged others to donate other food items such as Gari and Beans to balance the diet of the victims.
“For now we have a lot of bags of rice at the camp and we will want to appeal to the public to give us other food items including Gari and Beans for a balanced diet,” he added.
On January 21, there was an explosion at Appiatse, a community in the Western region, following a collision involving a truck carrying explosives to a local mine, causing injuries and destruction to property as well as displacement of the community people.
Since then, Corporate Institutions and individuals have been donating in support of the victims.
