The donation to the police was geared towards promoting cooperation and safeguarding national security through coordinated steps of addressing security challenges in the constituency, Mr Odamtten noted.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the donation, Mr. Odamtten said “through my Office as the MP, I am collaborating with all state institutions to deepen sectors of the national economy, particularly in the areas of peace and security, local economy, governance, and social support services”.

He said intelligence and secondary information gathering had become key components in policing hence the need to support the institutions with televisions to complement their efforts in maintaining law and order.

“Having conferred with the Regional Commander, supporting all the police commands within Tema East Constituency, with flat-screen television sets was a priority. The small stations will get one each while the big stations will get two sets each,” he added.

The Tema East MP stressed that his commitment to supporting peace and security was unwavering and that was one of the reasons the Lube Oil Police Post had a facelift to ensure that the police would be comfortable in discharging their duties.

He added that the weight of security needs differ due to community dynamics as a result, it was important to work collectively to improve security needs in the country.

“One of the elements I am considering has to do with how information can be gathered and so you can be watching the television and get a piece of information that can serve as a lead for further investigation.

He assured the Police Commanders of more support for capacity-building programmes to incorporate modern intelligence in their services.

All the Police Commands appreciated the effort of the MP and said they were ever ready to maintain law and order in the country.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Baba Saanid Adamu, Deputy Regional Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency that the Tema Regional Police Command has set-in-motion mechanism to work together towards the promotion of security within the Tema Region and its environs.

He explained that the Police Service, had a compact, but flexible organization, aiming to protect life and property; prevent and detect crime; apprehend and prosecute offenders; preserve peace and good order.

ACP Adamu noted: “We are also mandated to enforce all laws Acts, Decrees, and other regulations with which it is directly charged, so the media must understand that for the sake of public safety and national security we cannot divulge every information”.

He, therefore, commended the MP for the donation, stressing that the Police Administration needed support from the community to upscale their performance and duties in accordance with modern policing practice.
