Accra, Feb. 02, GNA—The Coalition of Concerned University Students (CoCUS)has threatened to embark on a “peaceful and intellectual” demonstration to push Government and the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) to resolve issues of conditions of service for the teachers.
It said Governments’ inability to bring a ‘‘harmonised’’ resolution to the ongoing UTAG industrial action and stalemate of negotiations had necessitated the protest.
A statement signed by all conveners and leaders of CoCUS and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Monday, January 31, 2022, said a petition will be submitted to the Presidency, Jubilee House, and Parliament for urgent consideration by Government and subsequent execution.
It said student activism had been crucial in the nation’s political and democratic history and
urged students, parents, the citizenry, to join the demonstration.
The statement said details of the demonstration would soon be communicated.
CoCUS is a coalition of all student activism groups across university campuses nationwide, which seeks to address issues of Ghanaian university students both home and abroad.
